Responsible Gambling
Gambling involves the possibility of losing money. This page provides Ontario-specific, practical information for safer decisions, recognizing harm and locating confidential help, including resources relevant to land-based casino visitors.
Adults only: Ontario casino access
Admission to Ontario casino and slot facilities is limited to eligible people aged 19 and older. Valid identification and other venue entry checks may apply; a loyalty card or promotion does not override them.
Gambling should never be presented as a solution to financial pressure, a form of employment or a dependable way to earn money.
Set limits before you visit
Decide in advance how much money you can afford to lose without affecting rent, groceries, transport, savings or debt repayments. Choose a fixed time for your visit and plan how you will get home.
Only use discretionary funds. Avoid borrowing, using credit needed for essential expenses, or increasing wagers after losses. A win does not mean a future win is more likely.
Know how games and outcomes work
Slots and electronic games have their own paytables, denominations and rules. Live table games have posted betting limits and procedures; the mathematical advantage differs by game and particular rule set.
Past spins, draws or hands do not guarantee the next outcome. Promotional points, loyalty tiers and Bonus Play are not the same as guaranteed cash or profit.
Take breaks and recognize changes
Pause if you feel anxious, frustrated, exhausted, rushed or pressured to continue. Taking a break is more important than trying to recover a loss.
Be cautious about extended sessions, concealing spending, changing personal plans to gamble or feeling unable to stop at the limit previously chosen.
Warning signs of gambling harm
Potential signs include chasing losses, spending beyond a budget, taking on debt, neglecting responsibilities, hiding gambling from loved ones, feeling distressed when not gambling, or having repeated unsuccessful attempts to stop.
These signs do not require a formal diagnosis before someone asks for help. Early conversations with trusted people or trained support services can be useful.
Self-exclusion at land-based Ontario casinos: My PlayBreak
OLG’s voluntary My PlayBreak programme offers a way to self-exclude from participating Ontario land-based casinos and charitable gaming centres. It is separate from digital-only self-exclusion tools and has its own enrollment and return procedures.
Published terms for casino and charitable gaming centres include 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years or 5 years. Registration can be discussed through the casino or OLG assistance channels.
Do not assume BetGuard, which addresses regulated online gambling, automatically applies to a physical casino. If you are considering self-exclusion, ask staff or an appropriate support service for the up-to-date process and scope.
Confidential, free support in Ontario
ConnexOntario provides confidential, free information and referrals for gambling, addiction and mental-health support, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-866-531-2600. The service can also explain relevant local treatment and support options.
You do not need to be in crisis, or be certain there is a gambling disorder, before asking for support. Family members and friends can also seek information.
If someone you care about is affected
Listen without blame, avoid financing gambling, establish boundaries around shared money and encourage the person to use confidential support. Seek advice for yourself if gambling affects household finances, safety or relationships.
Do not share another person’s private casino records or attempt to access their accounts without permission.
Gambling, alcohol and decision-making
Avoid gambling when affected by alcohol or other substances or while highly stressed or sleep-deprived. These conditions can make limits and decisions harder to maintain.
Take breaks, drink water, and consider leaving the venue if enjoyment has shifted to pressure or compulsion.
Budgeting, debt and financial protection
Keep essential bill payments separate from entertainment funds. Consider bank alerts, spending restrictions or help with finances if gambling begins to affect income or savings.
Stop playing if the planned amount is lost. Borrowing money to “win it back” adds risk without changing the underlying game odds.
How this website treats gaming content
The North Bay Casino website provides visitor information; it does not operate gambling or issue player accounts. Explanations of games, probabilities, promotions and rewards are educational rather than promises of financial return.
The Play Now navigation does not change the legal age requirement, the need to review actual operator rules or the importance of safer play.
When to seek urgent help
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to an emergency department. For urgent emotional distress, Canadian crisis services may be available by calling or texting 988.
For gambling-related treatment information and confidential referral in Ontario, call ConnexOntario 1-866-531-2600.
Casino staff and venue policies
For an on-site question about responsible play, self-exclusion registration, entry restrictions or assistance, contact Cascades Casino North Bay at 705-840-7702 or speak with Guest Services during an appropriate visit.
This website cannot enroll someone in My PlayBreak, change exclusion status or provide clinical treatment.
Ongoing commitment
The aim of safer gambling is to protect well-being and personal choice, not to maximize time or spending. If gambling stops being enjoyable or manageable, the appropriate next step may be to stop entirely and reach out for support.
